For accounting practices

Tax shouldn't be a surprise. It should be managed.

Q Tax Agent helps the client and accountant agree a tax plan, then keeps the records reconciled and the actual position visible against it throughout the year — reducing quarterly preparation and giving your accountants time to act before year end, not after.

We handle the detail. You make the decisions.

More clients move to quarterly reporting

WHY NOW

The real MTD challenge isn't filing. It's everything that happens before it.

More clients are moving into a quarterly tax cycle. The expensive part isn't pressing Submit, it's everything a practice has to do before the client is ready: collecting records, chasing clients, structuring transactions, reconciling, reviewing and understanding the position all consume professional time.

More clients. Four deadlines a year. The same team.

Q Tax Agent reduces that preparation, so quarterly work stays commercially manageable even across a large sole-trader book. And once records are kept current for compliance, accountants no longer need to wait until year end to understand where a client stands: the same preparation becomes the foundation for year-round tax management and advice. Filing is the final step. Q Tax Agent manages the work that gets you there.

How it works

From the records your client already has to a current tax position your team can act on.

01 · START

Start with any client, at any stage

Bring in a new client or pick up an existing one using the records already available — Open Banking, PDF or CSV statements, manual records or previous submissions. There is no need to change the client’s habits or rebuild everything from zero before getting started.

02 · PLAN

Plan together

The client and accountant build the plan together. The client provides the expected income, costs and changes they know about; the accountant reviews the assumptions, applies professional judgement and agrees the expected position with the client. Q Tax Agent then uses that agreed plan as the baseline for the year.

03 · ACTUAL VS PLAN

Keep the actual position visible against plan

Q Tax Agent keeps the records reconciled and current, so the practice can see how the client’s actual performance is moving against the agreed plan throughout the year. Instead of waiting until year end, accountants can see material changes while there is still time to respond.

04 · PROFESSIONAL ACTION

Review, decide and advise

The accountant reviews the current position and any movement away from plan, applies professional judgement and decides whether the client needs a conversation, an adjustment or advice. Q Tax Agent prepares and monitors the information. The accountant decides what it means. When a quarterly update or annual return is due, the same maintained data is already there for filing.

The plan gives the practice something to manage against.

Start with what already exists. Q Tax Agent can work from bank feeds, PDF or CSV statements, manual records and previous submissions, so the practice does not have to wait for a perfect starting point before bringing a client in.

Efficiency first. Advisory next.

Reduce the work. Create time to advise.

Start working with your clients for free. Keep records organised, plan their taxes and track actual results against the plan — with no monthly subscription.

Pay only when a report is due. You pay to produce the completed report — exporting it, filing it with HMRC, and any corrections or resubmissions are included.

Efficiency gets the practice in. Advisory creates the long-term value.

Where the time goes

More professional capacity.

Tax advice is valuable. Getting to the point where you can give it is what consumes the hours. Traditionally, ongoing advice is commercially viable mainly for higher-value clients, because collecting, chasing and reconciling records takes professional time before every review.

Q Tax Agent changes the economics by keeping more of that groundwork moving throughout the year, so tax oversight and advice become possible across a much larger part of the sole-trader client book.

More professional time spent where clients value it.

Records reconciled and the current position kept visible

In practice

When records are current, accountants have a stronger starting point to identify missing information and question unusual transactions.

Earlier visibility

See what is changing while there is still time to act.

Income ahead of plan

Actual income is moving ahead of the agreed plan, giving the accountant an opportunity to review the expected tax position and discuss cash requirements before year end.

Expenses requiring review

Current records give the accountant a stronger starting point to identify questions around missing, unusual or incorrectly treated costs.

CIS position changing

The client's CIS position is moving away from the expected position and can be reviewed during the year rather than discovered only at filing.

Performance moving away from plan

The practice can start the client conversation earlier, while decisions can still affect the outcome.

Q Tax Agent shows the movement. Your accountant decides what action or advice is appropriate.
